Temporary Accommodation

If you do not manage to arrange permanent accommodation prior to leaving for the UK, then you should at least try to arrange some temporary accommodation for a few nights. This will also be of use if your parents or family are travelling with you to the UK.

The following types of accommodation are available

Hotels
This is the most expensive option but may be required in an emergency. Hotels are quality assured by independent bodies such as the AA or RAC. The number of stars awarded is based on the facilities available at the hotel and not the cleanliness and decor of the hotel: these should all be up to a minimum standard.

Guest Houses
Guest houses are similar to hotels although usually an evening meal is not available or there is no choice. This is a cheaper option than hotels.

Bed and Breakfasts
This is normally part of a private house where a bedroom and possibly a bathroom are provided along with breakfast in the morning. This type of accommodation is normally cheaper than a guest house.

Hostels
Hostels normally provide the cheapest form of temporary accommodation and although basic are normally clean and conveniently located. Some of the best known hostels in the UK are run by organisations such as the IYHA or YMCA or private companies such as Britannia.
